I came across this Mongolian proverb the other day. Roughly translated, “Нэр хугарахаар яс хугар,” means, “Better a broken bone than a broken reputation.” The sentiment behind the proverb regards one’s credibility, so I suppose another way of seeing it would be, “Better a broken bone than a broken promise.” Honesty and credibility are rooted in culture, and I found this proverb very interesting. Lots of ways to interpret it, depending on one’s cultural background.
